In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Ripped from the Headlines!.”
The faint buzzing echoed in his ears, hands nimbly working the small control box braced on one knee, totally focused on the world beyond his antenna to the exclusion of all others. The lights, the sounds of the rides and games, rolled over him like waves, dimming and sharpening, washing against the barnacle-weathered pier until he heard only a constant dull roar, the tangled thicket of happiness mixed with fear.

Steady. Steady. The winds licked around the edges of their ship, rocking it side to side, inching forward towards the blindingly ring of the skeleton planet, foreign mind imposing it’s will on…..
“Shit,” the boy echoed as the drone made it almost through the ring before the collision. A collision he saw coming but he couldn’t change in any way. The steering on the drone wasn’t that fine.
“Hold on, “the pilot screamed as the rings clipped their tiny ship, sending them spinning of into space…. Spinning out of control, the drone ship flew backwards, spinning, spinning towards the ground…..
The giant hand slapped the tiny buzzing thing out of the air, nodding sagely as it crashed into the hard ground, breaking in a million pieces….
