Tom stood on the bank, taking in the disaster before him. Grimaced. Still looking.

Shifting nervously, George was afraid to speak until Tom expressed his opinion. He wanted to speak, wanted to extol the virtues of the scene before them, but he didn’t. One didn’t gush in front of Tom until one knew which way the wind might be blowing. Inside, he bounced nervously, chewing his lower lip.

Tom pursed his lips as if he might speak, but stayed silent. Rubbed his hand roughly across his face. Purse. Rub. Purse. Rub.

George knew he was about to be fired.

“This,” Tom said, “is your great property.” It wasn’t a question. “This dock wreck of the Hesperus.”

“Just imagine,” George replied, “a Marina spread out around the expanse of the cove. Pristine docks. Gleaming Yachts. Bustle of people. The ring of cash registers.”

“Bring me plans.” Tom turned back to his limo, leaving in a cloud of dust.

George fist pumped, dancing around whooping.

From the limo, Tom watched George whoop and dance, smile touching his lips for a moment. Nodding to the driver, they headed back to the office.
