Flash Fiction For Aspiring Writers

“Ah shit,” Calvin grumbled, glaring at the fallen tree.  He looked back at the other men, eyes settling on Danny as the boy attempted to hide behind the mini-mover. “Whatcha mean this ain’t the right tree?”

Danny bit his lip. “Well, I don’t think so. I think it was the other one.”

Their gazes turned to the identical tree on the opposite side of the drive.

“And ya didn’t say nothin’ earlier cause?”

Startled, scared, eyes. “I thought it was the right one?”

Calvin bit back an angry reply. “All right. Johnny, you and Phil-there, finish this one. Danny, get the guide rope on the other tree.”

Once the rope was secure, he started the chain saw and set to work. Both trees down. That was his story and he was sticking to it.

Ah, Christ. He was gonna have to fire his own nephew. Again.
