Welcome to Week 48
Today’s challenge is fairly simple.
Just use the given sentence somewhere in your piece – poem, story, anecdote, memory, quotation or anything else. You may choose to just take the theme, and not use the words in your piece.
She walked through fire, but was not burnt by it……
At least on the outside. No burns were visible, no scars, no charred flesh to show the pain bound deep inside. Fire was her natural habitat. Fire, in fact, had long ago ceased to mean anything in her life. She no longer felt the burning on her skin, flesh melting like watercolors in the rain.
Once damaged, nothing mattered but that she walked firm in the world, head held high, eyes fixed before her, forever towards the horizon. Survival. Survive the fire. Survive the looks, the horror, the memory of what she once had been.
Fire burned away the unnecessary, leaving glowing rubies behind.
