Response – JSW Prompt 6-21-2021

“You would.”

“Not everybody gets as slovenly drunk as you.”

“I’m not a sloven drunk,” Harry insisted even though he knew he was.

“Never mind now. We have other things to worry about.”

“You’re worried?” When Steve worried, things tended to go bad.

“No,” Steve brushed it off with a wave of his hand. “Just a figure of speech.”

“Then why use it? Why not….”

“Shut up! We don’t have time for your foolishness right now. You go left,” Steven continued, “and I’ll go right. We’ll meet around the back of the house to go inside.”

“Do we have to go in?”

“Why are we here?”

“To break into the house.”

“So yes! We. Have. To. Go. In.”

“What if I run into somebody?”

“Then knock them out.”

“Knock them out?”

“Yes, if you can’t avoid them. The point is to get in and out without anybody knowing.”

“What if I can’t knock them out?”

“Why couldn’t you knock them out?”

“Say they are facing me or they are leaning against the house or…”

“Then go around them.”

“What if I can’t go around?”

Steve dropped his head in his hands, sighed. “Then… just stay here.”  He looked up.  “You stay here. I’ll go around back and take care of things and meet you back here.”

“Here?”

“Here.”

”Right here?”

“Right here. Don’t move a muscle.” With that said, Steve rose and disappeared into the darkness.

Harry counted slowly to thirty then rose and walked to the front door. He knocked softly twice.
The door opened a crack.

“He should be round back now,” Harry said before turning and walking off into the darkness.
